Ukrainian Beauty Olga Kurylenko Bond Girl to officially launch the limited edition of the James Bond watch

Tokyo (Japan) - Sunday 23 November 2008

Today, Olga Kurylenko officially introduced the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean James Bond Limited Edition model at the Omega Boutique in Aoyama. The Ukrainian beauty, who starred in Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig, was invited by Omega to present the timepiece, which has been released in an edition of 5,007 pieces.

Omega was James Bond’s watch of choice in Quantum of Solace, the 22nd instalment in the most successful film franchise of all time. It marked the sixth film in which the iconic secret agent wore an Omega Seamaster. Daniel Craig reprised the role of 007 which he first played in Casino Royale. Quantum of Solace, which has already broken numerous box-office records, is set to open in Japan in January 2009.

The Japanese press gathered in front of the Omega Boutique Aoyama as Olga Kurylenko unveiled the new show window decoration featuring Daniel Craig in his role as the world’s favourite spy. Kimono-clad children were on hand to present flowers to the Ukrainian star, who was touched by the warmth of their gesture.

The event also included the inauguration of the James Bond Exhibition on the second floor of the Boutique.

At the Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Ginza, the latest Bond Girl was given the opportunity to try her hand at watchmaking. Kurylenko laughed as she attempted to adjust the tiny parts in a mechanical watch movement as a master watchmaker and a delighted audience looked on.

The day ended with a party at the Cité du Temps situated on the top floor of the building with a riveting view of the Ginza prefecture by night. More than 200 guests joined Omega and special guest Olga Kurylenko, the stunning actress who is carrying on the Bond Girl legacy – nearly as important a part of the film series as 007 himself.

James Bond and a limited edition Seamaster: worth the wait!

The patience of Bond fans and aficionados of great timepieces will soon be rewarded. OMEGA is releasing the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m 'Quantum of Solace' Limited Edition watch in line with the latest film in the franchise. Quantum of Solace, produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for EON Productions and directed by Marc Forster, will be released internationally in November 2008 with Daniel Craig reprising his role as James Bond.

The 'Quantum of Solace' watch has all the features which have made the Seamaster Planet Ocean one of the world’s most popular timepieces: features include OMEGA’s calibre 2500 self-winding chronometer movement fitted with the revolutionary Co-Axial Escapement, which reduces friction while offering better accuracy over time, and it has a power reserve of 48 hours. A free sprung balance further increases its precision. The 'Quantum of Solace' watch is perfectly designed for diving: it is water resistant to a depth of 600 metres (2000 feet) and has both a helium escape valve and a unidirectional rotating bezel.

A watch with its own personality

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m 'Quantum of Solace' also has some unique details distinguishing it from other Bond watches which give it a personality all of its own: it has a black dial whose textured surface is reminiscent of the grip of Bond’s trademark Walther PPK.

The 'Quantum of Solace' Limited Edition features white Super-LumiNova on its indexes and hands; the words 'Quantum of Solace' are discreetly laser-engraved on the inside of its sapphire crystal. The OMEGA name and logo and the Arabic numerals are applied on the dial. The blood red tip of the seconds hand and the Seamaster logo present a stark contrast to the black dial. The watch being released in a limited edition of 5,007 pieces.

Undeniably James Bond

This is undeniably a James Bond watch: a 007 logo is engraved on the buckle of the stainless steel bracelet. Another 007 logo appears on the caseback which also features the engraved words 'Planet Ocean Limited Edition' whose black chromium treatment recalls the colour of the black dial. On the caseback is the limited edition number (0000/5007).

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m 'Quantum of Solace' Limited Edition, 45.5mm is delivered in an elegant black presentation box whose texture reflects the watch’s dial. The inside of the presentation box proudly announces its lineage with the words, 'Quantum of Solace.'

For a few days now, I've been exchanging eMails with James R. Reese of the Watchuseek Forum regarding the story of his Omega Planet Ocean BIG SIZE "Quantum of Solace" Limited.

Dear Dell,

I got my "Quantum of Solace" limited edition for Christmas of 2008!

My wife ordered it for me ... in Toronto. On the day we went to pick it up, it was snowing like crazy! Cars were getting stuck everywhere, but the new Pirelli all-season radials I had just put on my wife's car enabled it to find a path through the snow!

This was--and is--my "Grail watch"! I thought it was the most beautiful watch I had ever seen. My wife knew how much I wanted it, and she got it for me!

I loved the "Walther PPK grip checkering" pattern on the dial, the "Quantum of Solace" laser engraving on the crystal, and the special "007" engraving on the case back and clasp. This is a beautiful limited edition watch, but its 007 theme is elegantly understated! It takes a very close inspection to determine that this watch is a 007 limited edition; I have the 007 LE "Black Bond," and it has the 007 counterweight on the second hand, which some think is a bit flashy--although I do not.

My other two Seamasters have required regulation to run within COSC specs, but not this QofS Limited Edition! Over six months of wearing the watch and keeping it in the watch winder, it gained an average of 0.83 seconds per day! This is phenomenal accuracy and consistency!

I am really glad to have this watch. This would be the only watch I would own if I could keep no other. It's rugged, beautiful and accurate . . . and that's the kind of watch James Bond would truly choose for himself....

Date [of acquisition] would probably be December 23rd ... I wanted to make sure the watch was "all right" before Christmas morning! ;-)

Toronto is definitely the city [Canada]!

I just picked up an Aqua Terra here in Kuwait, and I think it's a great watch for everyday wear! Of course, my "Blue Bond" goes everywhere I go!

Hmmm ... wondering what the next "5,007" issue of LE watches will look like!

I collect watches, have just strated to get into LE. I have the Bond QofS and a Speedy Moon-to-Mars. I looked at three QofS in Brisbane where I live and bought the lowest number I could find. I was suprised to find 3 in Brisbane.

A lot of people dont like the idea of the commercial tie-in but I do. I convinced one of my mates to switch to Omega from Longines. He bought a Bond as well, not the QofS, [but] a black one [of] 10,007 issued....
